Cook County High School

Project Description:

In the fall of 2006, the Cook County School System hired Altman + Barrett to replace their aging high school facility. Altman + Barrett worked extensively with school system personnel, city and county governments and the local arts council in order to incorporate all ideas and visions of the community. The new high school design is a single story and 2-story building with 57 instructional units, media center, vocational labs (construction, metals, agriculture, business, health occupations, and family and consumer science), cafeteria with six food court serving lines, commercial kitchen, computer lab, classrooms, band room, choral room, drama room, art room, administration space and a 1000 seat gymnasium. The feature building onsite is the 550+ seat performing arts center with state of art lighting, sound, and acoustical systems and is designed to accommodate the use from the local arts council. The 143 acre campus master plan also includes a soccer field, two football fields, running track, baseball field, softball field and eight tennis courts.
